Judging- General Comments

There are specific show standards for each type of Primula.  Some of these standards have been developed in Europe over centuries.

The judging standards of the American Primrose Society may differ from those of the British in some categories, but by and large they follow the same criteria.  Detailed standards have been established particularly for Gold-Laced Polyanthus and the show Auriculas.  The latter are divided into the following main classes: Edged, Selfs, Exhibition Alpines, Doubles, Borders (Garden Auriculas), Fancies and Striped.  Generally, species Primula are judged by health, though the plant is expected to demonstrate how it would look under ideal conditions in the wild; i.e., there should be no excessive growth from over-feeding.
